- First thing’s first …
Get the right shampoo and conditioner. What works for straight, fine hair is going to wreck curly thick hair. And the requirements for your hair type are not always intuitive. Take this amazing hair type quiz to get in-depth advice about which products to use for your specific hair type.
- Quit washing
That’s right. Washing your hair every day is damaging and makes styling more difficult. Allowing the hair’s natural oils to cote the hair shafts helps hair be less frizzy, hold styles, and have volume. (Note: This applies to most hair types, but girls with extremely thin and oily hair are the exception to this rule).
- Dry shampoo is your best friend
Use dry shampoo on unwashed hair to dry up the oils. Also use it all over roots before curling to produce tons of added volume, and use it halfway through the day or night to liven up floppy locks.
- Hairspray your bobby pins
To make bobby pins stay put in even the straightest hair, hairspray them. Put them on a paper towel, apply hairspray evenly, then shake them up a bit to coat. Allow to dry before placing in hair. They won’t budge all day.
- Flat iron your braids
Short on time and need a quick style? Section your hair into 4-6 big, even braids and flat iron them. Release, and voila! Instant beach waves.
- For a smooth updo…
Spray hands with hairspray and run through hair before starting updo.
- Use a toothbrush to fight frizz
Spray a toothbrush with a little hairspray and run through your hair to instantly tame flyaways.
- Use spin pins
To better secure your bun, use spin pins instead of bobby pins
- Use texture spray
Use texturizing spray on roots to give lift throughout day and night. When this stuff is in your hair, you can constantly revive your volume by running your fingers up and through the roots every few hours. We recommend KMS California’s Hairplay Playable Texture Spray.
- Get 5 minute curls
Use a curling wand and curl hair in huge sections for 5 a 5 minute hairdo. You’ll have big, uniform curls that look amazing and last all day. Here’s a quick tutorial.
- Use lotion in hair
Have frizz and no frizz taming crème? Use hand or body lotion (a tiny amount!) to instantly tame unruly hair.
